Introduction

All members of the Parkdale Bowling & Social Club Incorporated (The Club) agree to conduct themselves in a mature, courteous, respectful and responsible manner and recognise that the reputation of the Club is affected by and dependent upon their conduct and behaviour.

 

Expected Behaviours

It is expected that all members will at all times:

  • Conform to all rules, regulations and procedures of Bowls Victoria and The Club (available upon request)
  • Be respectful to all members, visitors and opponents, and particularly those who have volunteered to take up a position on a club committee.
  • Act and conduct myself with dignity and with respect for others and the property of others
  • Always practice and encourage good sportsmanship and fair play
  • Participate in all games to the best of my ability
  • Be on time for games and practice sessions
  • Advise the Club at the earliest possible time if I am unable to attend any game or practice session
  • Avoid individual or collective behaviour which may reasonably be held by opposition players or spectators to be offensive or discriminatory
  • Understand that all players are participating for their enjoyment
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every player regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, ability, impairment, cultural background or religion
  • Take proper care of all club equipment and facilities

 

Code Violations

The following is a non-exhaustive list of unacceptable actions and are violations of this Code:

  • Using abusive or threatening language or actions to anyone be they an opponent, a fellow team member, spectator or umpire
  • Use of derogatory language based on gender, sexual orientation, race, cultural background, religion, or impairment (including use of social media)
  • Any disparaging comments, sexual harassment, or acting in a manner that brings the club into disrepute
  • Wilful damage to the Club or the Club’s property (such as furniture, fittings, equipment, etc.)

 

Club Representation

Any member representing the Club must not engage in conduct which is violent, aggressive, inappropriate or prejudicial to the interests of the club or another member. A member representing the Club, for the purposes of this rule, is defined as anyone who:

  • Is wearing club uniform or any items of uniform that identifies them as a member of the Club;
  • Represents the Club in any bowls event;
  • Participates in any bowls event at our club or at another club; and
  • Attends such event(s) as a spectator.

 

Reporting of Breaches

Matters alleging a breach of this Code must be made in writing and provided to any member of the Board.

The Board will consider each written complaint and decide whether:

  • Additional information is required to substantiate the complaint
  • It can be resolved informally (e.g. through a quiet word, mediation or reminder of expectations)
  • It requires a formal disciplinary process

When considering appropriate action, the seriousness of the alleged breach and whether it is a repeated offence will be taken into account.

 

Notice to the Member (Respondent)

If the matter is to be referred to a disciplinary hearing, the member concerned will be:

  • Given notice of the complaint, including the place, date, time and composition of the committee;
  • Provided with details of the alleged conduct and on the grounds on which it is based;
  • Advised of their rights to attend and speak at the meeting or submit to the tribunal written representations regarding the alleged breach;
  • Advised that they may have a support person attend, but not entitled to be legally represented

At least 14 days’ written notice (but not more than 28 days) will be given for the hearing date.
